Publié le samedi 10 décembre 2016

To celebrate the 25 years of the Treaty on European Union (signed 7-02-1992) in Maastricht, after first negotiations took place on the 9th and 10th of December 1991 in Maastricht, the Province of Limburg and the City of Maastricht organized on the 9th of December 2016 an international Conference bringing together students, leading politicians, opinion-makers, academics and members of civil society to discuss today’s Europe and the European Union.

Luxembourg was represented by former Minister of Foreign Affairs Jacques Poos, who actively contributed to the negotiations of the treaty in the course of the Luxembourg EC presidency of the first semester of 1991 and who participated in the Maastricht summit and the subsequent signing ceremony.

Among others the President of the European Parliament Martin Schultz and Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker , as well as the Dutch Minister for Finance and President of the Eurogroup Jeroen Dijsselbloem , spoke to the audience.
