Celebration of the Luxembourg National Day in Maastricht
In recognition of the manifold close ties with Maastricht and the Province of Limburg, the Luxembourg Ambassador together with the King’s Commissioner and the Luxembourg Honorary Consul in Maastricht commemorated the Luxembourg National Day at a reception held on 21st June 2016, in the presence of representatives of the provincial and communal authorities and local citizens, as well as resident Luxembourgers.
The festive occasion of the event was underlined by the carillon concert performed in the Basilica of Saint Servatius playing Luxembourg tunes earlier in the day and by the performance of the ‘Cojellico’s Jangen’, a choir of Luxembourg singers at the reception in the ‘Provinciehuis’. The Commissioner as well as the Consul mentioned in their speeches the closeness of Luxembourg and Maastricht throughout the last 200 years, whereas the Ambassador stressed the common European destiny and looked forward to the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Maastricht Treaty in 2017.
