Luxembourg supports the IIIM mechanism for Syria in Geneva

At the Pledging Conference for the International, Impartial and Independent Mechanism for Syria, convened by the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Ireland and Qatar, under the Chairmanship of H.E. Mrs Aurelia Frick, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Liechtenstein, Luxembourg supported the ongoing efforts of investigation and prosecution of persons responsible for the most serious crimes under international law committed in the Syrian Arab Republic since March 2011. The Conference strongly encouraged States to provide financial support to the IIIM for the year 2019, so that it can effectively implement its mandate, whereas guaranteeing long-term funding of the IIIM through the UN regular budget will remain the key objective.

In 2017, Luxembourg made a first voluntary contribution of 200.000 euro to the Mechanism. For 2018, the Grand Duchy has decided a second voluntary contribution of 200.000 euro to the IIIM. During the Pledging Conference, the Permanent Representative has announced that Luxembourg will continue to support the Mechanism in 2019.
